In its 4th meeting on 21 November 2025, the STM main group, co-chaired by DG DEFIS and EEAS, was debriefed on the latest activities of the STM subgroups followed up by a comprehensive implementation roadmap of the EU STM approach; this roadmap showed that several of the 10 actions outlined in the Joint Communication are already completed with many others progressing well. STM main group members also learned about EUSPA’s recent activities in tailoring EU SST Re-Entry services to aviation users, thereby interlinking STM and ATM (air traffic management) more closely, as well as about STM capacity-building activities to promote the EU STM approach more widely, as proposed in the Joint Communication.
STM main group members were pleased to see progress on the various STM actions and confirmed that it helps to ensure that the EU approach on STM enhances EU capabilities and strategic autonomy and fosters EU competitiveness for the space surveillance sector and space operators alike.
The STM main group, co-chaired by DG DEFIS and EEAS, gathers representatives from EU Member States and EDA and steers the overall implementation of the EU approach to STM as outlined in the Joint Communication. It also oversees the work of the STM subgroups.
