Meta has announced four new tools for brand advertisers on Facebook and Instagram. They’re called Ads Super Burst, First Impression Ads, expanded Reels Trending Ads and a new way to measure video attention called Aggregated View Time.
The new features are all about helping advertisers to reach a bigger audience during cultural moments, get premium placements and better measure brand impact. Search Engine Land’s Anu Adegbola caught the news on October 15, 2026.
Not every tool is rolling out to everyone, though. One is set for general release, one is a limited U.S. test and one is still in alpha.
Ads Super Burst lets a brand buy a concentrated window of 3 to 24 hours to reach a large audience. Advertisers can add an optional category exclusivity. The coverage does not elaborate on how, but the idea is presumably that competitors in the same category do not share the window.
A window of 3 to 24 hours works for fleeting moments, when attention around a major event does not linger. A reserved block of time fits better with the dynamics of such an occurrence.
Planners begin in Meta’s Reach Planner, where advertisers can forecast costs and coverage before reserving advertising inventory for big events, such as product launches, sporting events or seasonal campaigns.
Meta notes that early advertisers using the format saw a median increase in ad recall of 2.9 points and reached approximately 34 million people per flight. In planning circles, a flight is simply the length of time a campaign will run. Ads Super Burst is set to graduate to general availability this month in a phased product launch.
Search Engine Land cites guaranteed reach as an attractive feature, noting that for a product launch or a high-profile sporting event, knowing the audience is secured in advance is a different proposition than campaigning for impressions.
First Impression Ads is a new placement that gives one advertiser per day the first ad position users see when they open their Facebook Feed. Meta is testing it in the U.S. only.
A single brand per day makes the placement scarce by design. The coverage doesn’t say how it’s priced or booked, or whether it will leave the U.S. test.
Premium visibility is the pitch. The first ad someone sees on opening Facebook may get attention before scrolling begins, which suits launches and campaigns built around one big message.
Reels Trending Ads are placements that appear on the heels of popular Reels, and Meta has expanded targeting options for the product. Advertisers can select from 15 evergreen content categories that include the newly added Home & Garden and Spanish categories, and time-sensitive content areas that reflect holidays and sporting events.
Ad targeting options are also newly available, including the ability to exclude audiences, which Meta promises to roll out later this year.
Meta claims the actions intent lift for campaigns that feature Reels Trending Ads is more than five percentage points among those who saw the ad versus those who did not, across 20+ categories. It also saw a five-point lift in unaided brand awareness.
Unaided recall is a notoriously difficult metric to influence, compared to aided recall; it tests whether someone can remember the brand unprompted. In contrast, actions intent is about what that person might be considering doing next. The coverage does not specify if the five-point lift applied across all categories or just select ones.
The value proposition of Reels Trending Ads is contextual relevance: By appearing next to content that users have chosen to engage with, a brand can associate itself with a cultural moment without requiring a reserved placement.
Aggregated View Time is a metric that measures the amount of time someone spends viewing a brand’s content weekly. Instead of focusing on individual view counts, this metric combines shorter views into one bigger number that represents overall attention.
Meta’s research shows that viewership lasting at least five seconds in a single view is significantly more valuable than five seconds of a video.
According to the research, the metric increases offline sales by 32%. The concept of frequency has been a staple of brand advertising and this tool simply applies the same principle to attention. A weekly view may help in cases where the user engages in a short-form video, and several such views are required to complete one longer watch.
The tool is currently in the early stages of alpha-testing, so it can potentially revolutionize the short-form video industry if it reaches the market. This metric can give the short-form video the same weight as longer videos, as it combines several shorter videos into one aggregated view. One weekly view is enough to boost the numbers, according to the research.
The four tools do not contradict each other. They cover different aspects so that a brand can choose multiple options.
Three out of four tools focus on location and time while one tool views the statistics. It is noticeable that one option refers to aggregated view time, so it is a separate area. The tool is also at the lowest level: it is still in alpha.
Every performance figure in the announcement comes from Meta. The recall lift, the 34 million reach, the action intent and awareness gains and the offline sales result all reflect specific studies and early advertiser results rather than guaranteed outcomes.
That doesn’t make the numbers wrong. It means they describe what happened for certain advertisers in certain conditions, and a different brand, category or budget could see something else. Independent results will matter once more advertisers have run these formats.
The comparison points aren’t the same across the figures. Reels Trending Ads results are measured against unexposed control groups. The coverage doesn’t state a comparison group for the Ads Super Burst figures or the baseline for the 32% offline sales result.
Search Engine Land reads the updates as a growing emphasis on premium placements, cultural relevance and cumulative video engagement. That’s a fair summary of where the four tools point.
Q1: What new ad tools did Meta announce?
Meta announced Ads Super Burst, First Impression Ads, an expanded Reels Trending Ads offering and a new measurement tool called Aggregated View Time. The updates target brand advertisers on Facebook and Instagram. They were reported on October 15, 2026.
Q2: What is Ads Super Burst?
It’s a format that lets brands reserve a concentrated 3 to 24 hour window to reach a large audience, with optional category exclusivity. Advertisers can use Reach Planner to estimate costs and reach beforehand. Meta says it’s moving toward general availability this month through a phased rollout.
Q3: What results has Meta reported for Ads Super Burst?
Meta says early advertisers achieved a median 2.9-point increase in ad recall. They also reached approximately 34 million people per campaign flight, the period a campaign runs. These are early advertiser results, not guaranteed outcomes.
Q4: What are First Impression Ads?
It’s a new placement that lets one advertiser per day secure the first ad position users see when they open their Facebook Feed. Meta is testing it in the U.S. It isn’t widely available yet.
Q5: How are Reels Trending Ads changing?
Advertisers can now choose from 15 always-on content topics, including new Home & Garden and Spanish-language categories, plus seasonal themes tied to holidays and sports. Targeting controls are part of the update, and custom audience exclusions are expected later this year.
Q6: What is Aggregated View Time?
It’s an early-stage tool that measures how much time someone spends viewing a brand’s content across a week. It combines shorter interactions instead of judging each video view on its own. It’s still in alpha testing.
Q7: Why does cumulative attention matter?
Meta’s research suggests five seconds of attention spread across several exposures can be more valuable than one five-second view. Meta reports 32% higher offline sales in that study. The coverage doesn’t give the comparison baseline for that figure.
Q8: Which of these tools are available now?
Ads Super Burst is rolling out in phases toward general availability this month. First Impression Ads is a limited U.S. test, and Aggregated View Time is in alpha. Reels Trending Ads is an expansion of an existing offering.
Q9: Are Meta’s performance figures guaranteed?
No. The figures reflect specific studies and early advertiser results rather than guaranteed outcomes. Results for other brands could be different, and the coverage doesn’t give a comparison group for every figure.
Q10: What should brand advertisers do first?
Start with Reach Planner to see what a reserved window could cost and deliver, and check which Reels Trending Ads topics fit your category. Treat First Impression Ads and Aggregated View Time as early tools to watch. Ask what comparison group sits behind any lift Meta quotes.
