RI Attorney General Neronha Sues Meta For Fraudulent Advertisements – iHeart

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha has filed a lawsuit against Meta for its alleged failure to stop fraudulent ads and financial scams on its platforms.
Rhode Island is the first state to file a lawsuit against Meta for the alleged behavior, following a similar lawsuit brought by Santa Clara County in California.
The lawsuit accuses Meta of knowingly profiting from scam advertisements on sites that include Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
The lawsuit alleges violations of the state’s Deceptive Trade Practices Act and seeks civil monetary penalties for each alleged violation and consumer restitution for affected users.
