To continue reading register for free, or if you’re already a member login Register  LoginThe group bought a package of a dozen GBK sites last monthHonest Burgers is set to open the first of 12 new restaurants converted from former Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) locations. The group bought package of a dozen GBK sites last month, bringing its total portfolio to 51 locations. The first of the converted restaurants will open in London’s Wimbledon on 26 October, offering beers from a local brewery. New Honest Burger sites are also due to launch in Norwich, Leamington Spa, as well as elsewhere in London and Bristol. They form part of the brand’s plans to quadruple the size of its business by 2030. “We’re proud to be opening another restaurant in south London, not too far from where we began and we’re excited to welcome the Wimbledon community through the doors,” said Honest Burgers’ co-founder Tom Barton. The expansion comes after Honest Burgers posted a pre-tax profit of £1.7m in the year ending 28 January, up from a £2.4m loss the prior year. Turnover rose 6% from £56.3m to £59.8m, while adjusted EBITDA jumped 56% to £6.2m. Sales were boosted by the launch of Honest Burgers’ first spin-off smashburger concept, Smash + Grab, in London’s Liverpool Street last December.
