BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Digital Marketing class spent the semester working with the Lewis County Economic Development Authority on a plan to strengthen the organization’s online outreach.
The course, taught by Dr. Kim Conrad, included 14 junior and senior students. The project focused on building a digital marketing strategy aimed at connecting with local and out-of-area businesses, as well as potential employees considering Lewis County.
The Lewis County Economic Development Authority’s work extends beyond business recruitment and site development, with an emphasis on long-term growth and community well-being, according to the release.
“Partnering with Ray Smith and the Lewis County EDA was an outstanding opportunity for students to learn and apply digital marketing skills throughout this project. The recommendations they made to Mr. Smith will push the organization to higher levels of awareness and engagement with multiple target audiences. I’m very proud of my students’ creativity and professionalism when developing and presenting their digital marketing plan,” Conrad said.
Student Carly Wolfgang ’25 said the project provided hands-on experience tied to her career goals.
“Being able to get real life experience in helping develop a digital marketing plan was beneficial for my future endeavors as a marketing major looking for a job in the marketing realm. Our class worked really hard to develop different strategies for different target audiences to get the Lewis County EDA more recognized as a top EDA in West Virginia!” Wolfgang said.
The plan included an overview of the Lewis County EDA, a competitor analysis, identification of target audiences and recommended messaging strategies. Students also outlined tactics across social media, website content and design for an upcoming site, search engine optimization, search engine marketing and content marketing.
Students presented the plan to Ray Smith, and the release said he was pleased with the recommendations and the insights on expanding the Lewis County EDA’s digital presence.
