TikTok Bars Thai Politicians From Paid Ads Ahead Of Election – BusinessToday Malaysia

Social media platform TikTok announced that it will block all Thai election candidates from paying for advertising or monetising content during the campaign period for the Feb 8 general election.
The restriction expands existing rules that already prohibit political advertising and revenue from politically branded content on the platform.

TikTok said the measures will now apply to the accounts of all candidates participating in the vote.
The company stated the policy aims to ensure fairness and compliance with local election regulations, preventing undue influence through paid promotions during the sensitive campaign period.
Political parties and candidates in Thailand have increasingly relied on social media platforms to reach younger voters, prompting platforms such as TikTok to tighten rules ahead of polls.
Similar restrictions were also implemented by other platforms in past elections to curb the spread of misinformation and paid political content.
TikTok’s decision comes amid heightened scrutiny of digital campaigning in the country, with regulators closely monitoring online content to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
