On October 30, Cronos for the first time bought back and destroyed its own tokens from ongoing revenue: 1,791,534.14 CRO for around $92,000. The amount equals 0.0035 percent of circulating supply, while around 1.2 billion CRO are due to be released from the reserve on November 16.CryptoTickerTrading Game: practice with real prices$10,000 in play money, real market prices, a leaderboard. Carefully curated by our editors: no hype, no promo flood, no spam.On October 30, 2026, Cronos for the first time took its own tokens off the market using ongoing revenue and destroyed them: 1,791,534.14 CRO, worth around $92,000 according to the trade news service TokenPost. This puts into practice for the first time a model that the community approved at the start of October. The decisive number, though, lies not in the burn but next to it: the amount destroyed equals 0.0035 percent of circulating supply, and around 1.2 billion CRO are due to come out of the reserve on November 16 under the release schedule.A burn is the permanent destruction of tokens by sending them to an address with no access key. A buyback is the step before: the project buys tokens on the open market, with real money, rather than simply taking them out of use. Together, the two are meant to tighten supply. Whether they do so depends solely on the amounts involved. The figure is precise and confirmed from two sides. TokenPost gives 1,791,534.14 CRO and puts the purchase value at about $92,000. The Chinese-language trade service TechFlow gives the same amount and adds that this is the programme’s first settlement, covering the fees collected since the products involved launched in September. At the price of $0.050756 shown by CoinGecko on Friday evening at around 7 pm German time, the destroyed tokens are worth around $91,000 today. For every future buyback, the project intends to publish the transaction hash as well. A transaction hash is the unique identifier of a blockchain entry, which lets anyone look up a transaction in a block explorer. That is the part of the announcement that matters in practice for holders: a burn report that comes with an identifier can be checked. One without cannot.Trading GameTrading Game: practice with real prices$10,000 in play money, real market prices, a leaderboard. No signup, no credit card. The buyback is funded from the revenue of two products that launched in September. Here the two sources differ in their description, and that discrepancy should be laid out openly. TokenPost writes that 100 percent of the proceeds from Cronos Ult and Cronos Launch go into purchases on the open market, with the tokens bought then burned. TechFlow separates the two routes: trading fees from the Ult platform are used for the buyback, while issuance fees from Cronos Launch are burned in full after conversion. In substance, both lead to the same result, namely destroyed tokens. The difference still matters for how reliable the amount will be in future: fees fluctuate with trading volume. Both services state explicitly that future monthly amounts depend on the fees actually collected. So this is not a fixed amount per month.According to CoinGecko, CRO is trading at $0.050756 on Friday evening, or about €0.0455. Over seven days it is down 9.9 percent, over 14 days 11.4 percent and over 30 days 24.9 percent. Over the year, the token is down 64.5 percent. Market capitalisation is around $2.58 billion, and it ranks 39th in the market overview. The 24-hour high was $0.052806 and the low $0.050147. The current price therefore sits just above the low. The wider market puts this in context: Bitcoin lost 4.96 percent on the same day and Ether 4.21 percent, after Binance put an attack at $6.3 billion. CRO is falling in step with the overall market that day.Nothing that could be separated from the market move. Purchase volume of $92,000 compares with daily turnover that CoinGecko shows at $8.68 million on Friday evening. Anyone looking for an effect on the price at this scale is looking in vain. That is not a criticism of the programme but a calculation.According to CoinGecko, 50.75 billion CRO are in circulation. The 1.79 million tokens destroyed equal 0.0035 percent of that. Calculated the other way round: if the monthly amount stayed constant, the programme would need around 283 months to burn a single percent of today’s circulating supply. That is almost 24 years. This calculation assumes a constant fee base and is therefore not a forecast but a way of placing the starting point. If revenue on Ult and Cronos Launch rises significantly, the monthly amount rises with it. The first month also covers only the period since September, not a full month of operation. On the other side of the equation is the release schedule. On October 17, according to analyses based on the Tokenomist service, about 1.17 billion CRO left the strategic reserve, around 2.33 percent of circulating supply. Reports put the value differently, in a range from $69.5 million to $73 million. For November 16, the schedule lists the next tranche, around 1.17 billion to 1.2 billion CRO depending on the source.Setting the two numbers side by side gives the ratio that matters: the November release is about 670 times the size of the first monthly buyback. An unlock is only the scheduled availability of tokens, not a sale. Tokens becoming available does not mean they move to an exchange. Tokenomist explicitly marks parts of the release figures as still to be confirmed, so they remain projections. The strategic reserve goes back to a 2025 governance decision that reissued 70 billion CRO that had been destroyed in 2021. Staking rewards, among other things, are paid out of this reserve. We broke down the mechanics on October 19 in a separate article on the reserve and circulating supply; we described the vote on the buyback model on October 1. Both pieces are our own and serve here as background, not as independent confirmation of the figures above.Of the total 99.01 billion CRO, 51.3 percent are therefore in circulation. 48.26 billion tokens sit outside it. Anyone wanting to assess CRO’s supply side should look at this block and at the release schedule, not at the monthly burn report. An obvious conclusion would be to blame the price slide of recent weeks on the October release. The sequence argues against it. Coverage of October 17 notes that the decline had already begun before that date; no link between release and price trend can be inferred from it. Only what can be dated is reliable: a 24.9 percent drop over 30 days, much of it before the release date. That means two things for interpreting the situation. A release is not selling pressure as long as nobody sells. And a buyback is no price support as long as its scale stays below the noise of daily turnover. Both are supply mechanics whose effect shows only over months, if at all.Three figures are enough: the amount destroyed, the circulating supply and the next release date. Divide the first by the second and you have the share of supply. Compare the amount destroyed with the next tranche and you have the ratio. If a burn report does not stand up to this comparison, it is news about a programme and not about supply. The reference points are the ranges the market itself has set, not price targets. On the upside, the intraday high is $0.052806, and above that the round level of $0.055, where CRO traded on October 22. On the downside, the intraday low of $0.050147 marks the next test, followed by the round $0.05 level sitting just below it.November 16 is the next dated event in this token’s calendar. No second fixed date is confirmed in the schedule: the size of the next buyback depends on fees and only becomes known at settlement. Reading levels and dates together gives you everything that is established for the next two weeks.A burn by the project is not a taxable event for you. You sell nothing, you swap nothing, and your number of tokens stays the same. Tax only becomes relevant when you trade yourself. In Germany, gains from selling crypto assets are tax-free after a holding period of more than one year; within the year they count as a private disposal. The holding period is the time between the purchase and sale of an individual holding. In practice, this means that anyone holding CRO at a loss and thinking about selling should first check the purchase date of each individual tranche, not the portfolio average. For a token that has lost 64.5 percent over the year, offsetting losses within the one-year period is often a more important item than the price itself. Our comparison of crypto tax tools and portfolio trackers shows which tools track the deadlines for each tranche. This is not legal advice. Assessing an individual case, especially with staking income from the reserve, belongs in the hands of a tax adviser.Daily turnover of $8.68 million against a market capitalisation of $2.58 billion is the point most likely to hurt in day-to-day trading. Low turnover means wide spreads and slippage. Slippage is the difference between the price you see when you place an order and the price at which it is actually executed. In thin trading this gap widens, precisely when many people want to trade at once.Three things follow in practice. Use limit orders instead of market orders, so that the execution price does not make the decision for you. Check the spread on the specific exchange before buying, not the average price on an aggregator site. And with leveraged positions, look very closely at the liquidation price: a liquidation is the forced closure of a leveraged position once the collateral no longer suffices, and in thin order books it comes sooner than the chart suggests. Which providers with MiCA authorisation trade for customers in Germany is shown in our overview of the best crypto exchanges. On custody: many holders keep CRO on the platform where they bought it. That is convenient and ties you to that provider’s solvency. If you want to hold larger amounts for months, move them to a wallet of your own where you hold the keys. The programme has pledged to publish the corresponding transaction with every monthly buyback. That makes every future report verifiable without your having to take a press release on trust. If the identifier is ever missing, that is the finding, not the amount. In this respect the first round is cleanly documented and reported with the same amount by two independent trade services. That is more transparency than many burn programmes offer. It just does nothing to change the scale, and the scale is the real yardstick. The first monthly buyback is a working mechanism at a size that does not move supply. If you hold CRO or want to buy it, there are three things to do today:The primary reports on the first buyback are at TokenPost and TechFlow.(As of October 30, 2026. This article is not investment advice. Prices and fee structures change; check the terms with the provider before you buy.)1,791,534.14 CRO, worth around $92,000 according to TokenPost. The report is dated October 30, 2026, and TechFlow gives the same amount.No. The amount destroyed equals 0.0035 percent of the 50.75 billion CRO in circulation. Around 1.2 billion CRO are due to be released from the reserve on November 16 under the release schedule, roughly 670 times as much. From the revenue of Cronos Ult and Cronos Launch. TokenPost speaks of 100 percent of both products' proceeds, while TechFlow separates Ult trading fees for the buyback from Cronos Launch issuance fees for the burn. The monthly amount therefore depends on fees.A burn by the project is not a taxable event for you, because the number of tokens you hold stays the same. For tax purposes, only your own sale or swap counts, and in Germany the one-year holding period for each individual tranche is decisive there. No date has been confirmed. The programme is designed to run monthly, and the amount depends on the fees actually collected, which only become known at settlement. The transaction hash is to be published with each buyback.Transparency note: This article was produced with the assistance of artificial intelligence and reviewed by our editorial team before publication.
