MOUNTAIN rescue and the ambulance service negotiated a road closure and a weak bridge yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) to reach someone having a medical issue in a remote Yorkshire Dales hamlet. The closure of the only road into Foxup in Littondale meant the ambulance was unable to get through, so a call was made first to Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue and then to Cave Rescue Organisation, because it was quicker for the CRO team to get to the casualty. Two CRO vehicles with team members were dispatched, and while some members provided initial care to the casualty, one of the vehicles set off to collect the ambulance crew.A spokesperson for the Cave Rescue Organisation said: "The ambulance crew were currently impeded by a weak bridge undergoing remedial construction works. The road ambulance after it managed to get through to Foxup (Image: CRO)"Fortunately, a member of the construction crew advised that the bridge was safe for the ambulance crew to cross so both they and the CRO team headed to the casualty site."After further assessment by the paramedics, additional air ambulance support was requested and was on scene some 20 minutes later. After further treatment, the casualty was then transferred to the road ambulance and conveyed to hospital."51 per cent of locals agreed with traffic-free proposalsThree more London councils are looking to hike up council tax in an effort to plug holes left by a shortfall in fundingJohn Healey is said to believe the allowance cut was the wrong tool to persuade Britons to invest more in stocks and shares. We’ve become so obsessed with protein that we’ve forgotten the nutrient most of us aren’t getting enough of.
