TikTok is eager to extend the reach of its advertisements beyond the application. On October 5th, 2026, the company launched its off-platform ad network to the advertisers, who want to target the US audience. The network covers almost 400,000 apps worldwide and has been operating for several years under a different brand name.
However, the newly-launched version is available in the US, and TikTok announced that it will be integrated with the latest AI technologies, enabling the advertisers to launch campaigns via chat assistants such as Claude and Perplexity. Below are the key updates, claims provided by TikTok, and questions that are worth consideration by the advertisers before launching the campaigns.
TikTok announced the news at Advertising Week New York, highlighting the TikTok Ad Network (TTAN) as the headlining story. The ad network allows advertisers to extend their TikTok campaigns to third-party apps. According to Adweek, TikTok has been testing the ad network with a limited audience of US users. It is now available to a larger audience of US and international advertisers.
The ad network offers two types of placements, with a TikTok spokesperson telling Adweek that they appear across TikTok’s “ecosystem” and third-party apps. Adweek notes that the ad network is heavily tilted towards gaming.
In addition to the ad network, TikTok announced additional products during the event. These included a one-click checkout dubbed Buy Direct, a conversational Shopping Assistant, and an AI-powered lead generation agent called Agentic Leads. Among other things, TikTok announced that its Smart+ automation would now be available for search ads. Additionally, the company modified the cost calculation formula for GMV Max, an automated TikTok Shop advertising tool for sellers.
TTAN is the newly rebranded name for Pangle, a service launched by ByteDance in 2018. It has been in use ever since, serving advertisers and app developers. As far as the latest developments suggest, the TikTok US announcement will see the ad platform rebranded under the TikTok brand name. It is reported that while advertisers will see the changes in TikTok Ads Manager, the app publishers will continue to see Pangle.
As per the report by Music Business Worldwide, which references a TikTok blog post, the US is the 48th market for the network. It is noted that the network is available across TikTok’s apps, which boast a combined count of over 1 billion daily active users. Advertisers not based in the US already had access to the network, and the launch in the US is now completed.
It is important to note that the context surrounding the announcement is different, compared to a launch of an entirely new product. This is not a new network; rather, it is an established service that is now entering a new market. As such, the changes suggest that TikTok has a mature advertising network, which has been proven across multiple markets. It should be noted that the claims are mostly based on the strength of TikTok as an advertising medium.
TikTok Ad Network is part of TikTok Ads Manager which allows advertisers to run their ongoing campaigns on the network without creating new campaigns, according to Music Business Worldwide. Thus, teams that already buy ads on TikTok can save time and effort.
However, one report, based on information from TikTok’s help center, offers practical advice. A campaign’s ad placement cannot be changed once an ad group has been created. Advertisers that want to test the network on its own terms must take this nuance into account at the earliest stage. Take this note with a grain of salt, but double-check this information in TikTok’s Help Center before creating any campaign.
TikTok supports the launch with performance claims. Early testing campaigns using automatic placement (which includes the network) delivered a 65% improvement in cost per acquisition and 63% improvement in return on ad spend compared to single placement campaigns, Music Business Worldwide reports, citing an April 2024 internal test across Pangle’s markets.
Read the fine print. It’s an internal test (so not the third party we’re promised), more than two years old, and not run in the US. It’s a reasonable reason to try the product, but it’s not proof that the same lift will appear for your US advertiser in 2026.
TikTok also provides a reach argument. A report citing TikTok’s launch materials claims half of the network’s users are not on TikTok, which it sizes at 95 million incremental users. If that’s accurate, the network has reach to people a TikTok only campaign never touches. Advertisers should verify that number with their own tests.
Roblox gave a supportive quote. Danica Xu, the company’s head of growth marketing, said the network helped extend what was already working on TikTok to reach more of the audiences it needed at scale. One happy customer is useful, but it’s a single data point.
Third-party applications are indeed a concern. Advertisers cannot control the environment around them as efficiently as they could on a single platform.
TikTok highlights multiple security measures. According to the help center, reporting in it offers post-bid brand safety measurement by DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science, as well as real-time filtering of fraudulent traffic. Moreover, through brand safety tools in Ads Manager, it becomes possible to exclude up to 10,000 apps using bundle IDs.
It is worth noting that, according to Digiday, TikTok did not respond to requests for information about which applications are included in the network. Thus, the block list becomes even more relevant. Advertisers will have to watch over the placement reports more carefully, especially in the first few weeks after launching the product.
The second half of the news concerns advertising management. TikTok’s ads connector built on open Model Context Protocol is now available across several AI platforms and registries, including Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy, and IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry.
In practice, the ads can be planned, launched, and managed from within a chat assistant. B&T describes it as launching and managing TikTok campaigns from within a Claude chat. TikTok reports that advertiser use of the connector for campaign activation and management has grown more than 200% since launch, based on internal data from July through September 2026.
Yet, again, it’s TikTok’s data. The 200% increase tells us little without the starting number – but it underscores TikTok’s emphasis on agent-based buying.
Early agency reaction is cautiously optimistic. Digiday spoke with buyers who feel a bigger network is only valuable if it reaches people who they cannot currently reach. Zea Hirsh of Collective Measures said the real question is not whether TikTok can place an ad in another app. It is whether the network adds audiences that advertisers cannot find elsewhere.
Lindsay Baker, associate director of social at Crossmedia, was blunter. She said a larger ad network “doesn’t make us move more money into TikTok.” In her view, the extra reach has to prove itself as being valuable, not just cheaper.
That caution makes sense. Advertisers already have many ways to extend campaigns across the open web and app ecosystem. TikTok enters a crowded field.
TikTok is making this move from a position of strength. The Desk reports that WARC predicted in July that TikTok could surpass YouTube in global advertising revenue by 2030. They attributed this to TikTok’s strength in social commerce and performance advertising. Tubefilter reports that Kantar’s Media Reactions 2026 report names TikTok the top platform where marketers plan to increase their ad spend in 2027.
The ad network fits that story. It gives TikTok another channel to sell performance, using the same Ads Manager, the same targeting, and a larger inventory pool. For TikTok, the appeal is clear. More places to put ads means more ways to gain budget.
It is TikTok’s ad network of third-party apps in which companies can extend their TikTok campaigns. TikTok claims that it is available in almost 400,000 apps worldwide. Previously, it has been called Pangle.
TikTok announced the launch date on October 5, 2026, during Advertising Week New York. Moreover, the U.S. is the company’s 48th market, according to the report released from TikTok’s announcement.
Not exactly, because ByteDance has already launched the platform in 2018 under the name Pangle and attracted overseas advertisers. However, now the app network is available for TikTok creators and marketers.
It has been embedded in TikTok Ads Manager, where companies can expand their TikTok campaign’s reach by choosing additional placements without creating separate campaigns. Moreover, it is reported that placements may have been limited if an advertiser had set up an ad group.
According to the report, TikTok’s ad network has driven a 65% lower cost per acquisition and a 63% higher return on ad spend (ROAS). In addition, the result has been achieved based on TikTok’s internal test that took place in April 2024 across Pangle’s markets, not the U.S.
It has been revealed that advertisers get post-bid measurement powered by DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science and fraud screening. Besides, there is an option to exclude up to 10,000 apps. However, TikTok has not disclosed the list of apps in its ad network.
Yes, because TikTok’s ads connector is compatible with Claude, Perplexity, and several other AI tools. It has enabled marketers to build and launch campaigns using an AI chatbot.
It has been stated that buyers are not interested in simply driving down the cost per thousand impressions; they are looking for new audiences. For example, Crossmedia’s Lindsay Baker said that a bigger audience does not necessarily prompt advertisers to spend more.
