X has introduced a new ad product called X Lift that uses artificial intelligence to turn a business’s web address into a collection of ready-for-review ads with just a few clicks. The company announced the tool at Advertising Week New York, and Social Media Today published the story on October 6, 2026.
X’s value proposition is simple: Advertising on X can be a frustrating experience for businesses due to the number of manual steps required to set up and manage campaigns. X Lift aims to streamline the process by automating most of these tasks.
An advertiser enters a business URL. X’s AI ad generation system then creates a variety of ad options including images and copy. The advertiser chooses the options they like and uses them in a campaign
X’s own announcement described the product in plain terms. The company said advertisers set their destination and goal and then watch their business grow. X also called X Lift its first product to combine three pillars of speed, scale and intelligence.
X Lift is innovative in another way. The Social Media Today outlet notes that the process allows for developing an entire campaign, including the targeting. What the advertiser has to do is set a budget, while the system automatically takes care of everything else.
It is a major difference compared to the standard approach where usually an advertiser prepares copy and images, defines the target audience, sets a bid and tests the performance. With X Lift, AI takes care of most of these at once from a single link.
The target audience for X’s announcement would be new advertisers. X is eager to attract more users to the app, and novices are a good choice for a simple tool. Unexperienced marketers can try something they know well – their website. It is always available and is a great place to begin.
Experienced marketers can also benefit from such a tool. It is always useful to have a reliable way to make a rough draft of a campaign quickly and launch it right away.
Social Media Today reports that the system was trained on X ads, which implies that it understands how to achieve stronger performance on the given platform. This makes it somewhat valuable for shorter-term campaigns.
The only caveat is that one has to trust X’s system to generate relevant and high-performing campaigns. The tool, which is supposed to create everything from the URL, has too much autonomy over the advertiser’s money. One can hardly allow an algorithm to make all the decisions and not go over each choice, targeting option, and budget allocation before approving the campaign.
X has recently done something similar. In February 2025, X announced Prefill with Grok, a tool that allows advertisers to input a web address and let Grok read the content and generate an advertisement based on that information. Initially available to a limited number of advertisers, this function was gradually implemented.
X Lift appears to be an enhanced version of this concept. Using Prefill with Grok, the user creates an ad; however, X Lift utilizes this concept to address multiple campaign-related issues at once, beginning with targeting.
X Lift is the latest addition to Twitter’s growing list of new products, following a larger strategic shift. On April 30th, 2026, X launched a new, revamped, AI-powered ad platform as a part of a wider phased launch. According to the report by TechCrunch, X claimed that the new platform utilizes more modern retrieval and ranking systems. Monique Pintarelli, the head of global advertising at xAI, claimed that the new ad stack was designed to allow for the faster introduction of new features. Additionally, she stated that advertisers should expect a steady stream of updates.
X Lift appears to fit the description of such an update, and one of the newest features to populate on the new system.
X’s advertising business has been through a rollercoaster since Elon Musk purchased the company in 2022. According to Social Media Today, part of the issue was that some of Musk’s changes and views were unpopular with ad partners, and companies gradually stopped using the app.
The good news is that things seem to be looking up. According to TechCrunch’s report, citing eMarketer forecasts, X is expected to see its ad revenue climb to an estimated $2.26 billion in 2025, rising to $2.46 billion in 2026. And, in the release for X Lift, X announced that active self-serve advertisers had increased 50% in the third quarter of 2026, compared to the same period last year.
These are both figures from X and a forecast, so take them with a big grain of salt, but a 50% increase in self-serve advertisers is a significant motivator for spending more time and effort on making things easier for first-time users. Self-serve is the space where simple apps can bring in new spenders.
X is not alone. Digiday reported that TikTok, Meta and X all put creative in the spotlight at Advertising Week New York. Each unveiled or expanded tools that help advertisers generate, adapt, select and activate ads inside their own platforms.
Digiday described X Lift as an AI-powered campaign builder that can turn campaign ideas from a URL into a ready-to-review campaign. Meta, for its part, is widening access to its Ads Creative Studio.
An Enders Analysis researcher quoted by Digiday said this is about ad platforms that have invested heavily in AI using it to solve their own problems. Keeping creation, testing and activation in one place reduces friction. It also keeps advertisers working inside the platform’s own tools.
Start small. Test X Lift tool on a small scale to see what it can do for you before you start investing significantly. Compare the results it produces to a manually created campaign.
Make sure that everything the AI generates is in line with the claims and voice of your brand. Specifically, pay attention to the audience that the tool recommends since it will choose them for you.
Make sure to have specific goals in mind before launching the tool. X Lift requires you to enter a destination and a goal, so being non-specific will produce non-specific results.
Compare the results of an AI-powered campaign to your usual standards. While X Lift claims that its automated targeting helps businesses achieve better results, only your metrics can tell if the campaign is performing on par with your expectations.
Several details remain undisclosed in the reports. Social Media Today does not say how quickly the X Lift will reach all advertisers. It says nothing about the advertiser’s ability to retain control of the campaign after it has built by the system. Nor does it provide preliminary results
Until these details become public, it is best to remain cautious. The X Lift appears to be a promising shortcut for new advertisers. However, it has yet to be proven effective.
Q 1: What is X Lift?
It is an artificial intelligence-powered ad product from X that turns a business URL into a series of advertisement options and can construct a whole campaign. The advertiser primarily sets a budget.
Q 2: When was it announced?
X unveiled it at Advertising Week New York. Social Media Today reported the news on October 6, 2026.
Q 3: What does the system generate?
It generates advertisement options that contain images and copy options from which the advertiser can choose. The system can also set the targeting for the ad campaign.
Q 4: Who is X Lift for?
The new feature is primarily aimed at new advertisers, as X is trying to drive the business back to the app. Experienced advertisers can use it for simple promotions.
Q 5: Is this the first time X has used URL-based ad creation?
No, as in February 2025, X announced Prefill with Grok that similarly utilized a website URL to create advertising materials. X Lift seemingly takes this concept one step further, as it also includes campaign and targeting.
Q 6: What data is the AI trained on?
According to Social Media Today, the system is said to be trained on the X ads to help it understand the most effective options for the given platform.
Q 7: Do advertisers still have control?
The advertisers choose from the provided advertisement options; however, the reports do not detail to what extent they can edit the suggested campaign. A review of all options before launching the ad campaign is necessary.
Q 8: Why is X pushing self-serve advertisers?
The company announced that self-serve advertisers grew 50% in the third quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year, so such a feature is needed to draw in more spenders.
Q 9: Is X the only platform doing this?
No, as Digiday reported that TikTok, Meta, and X all announced new creative tools during Advertising Week New York. Meta, for example, is looking to expand the presence of its Ads Creative Studio.
Q 10: Are there results data yet?
Not in the reports; however, X suggests that its automated targeting is helping drive the results, and independent performance data has not been shared yet.
